Busting My Stash

While I’m not joining the 2018 RTW Fasters at Goodbye Valentino, I am going to do my best to use up all my quilt fabrics this year.  I know I don’t have the biggest stash.  Believe me, I’ve seen some who have rooms full of unused fabric that rival a quilt store’s stock.  But then, I’ve heard of people who only buy what they need for a given project and don’t have a stash at all.  I’ve got to say, I’m a little weary of that.

I will pledge to send as little textile waste to the landfills as I can for this year and moving forward.  My county has reportedly started collecting scraps that can be used in things like insulation.  Makes me feel a lot better about all the ends and minuscule pieces I cut off from my quilt squares.

There must be a method, like in coordinating a wardrobe, where one can have just the right fabric for your quilt and not have to go out and buy more.  Hopefully, I bought wisely.

While trying to put together leather and waxed canvas for some new handbags, I wasn’t as lucky.  I did have to purchase some small pieces.  Knowing what handbags I was going to make when I bought the leather or dyed the canvas, might have been helpful.

My first project is a quilt square featuring a geometric pattern.  I’ve also taken a class by Cheryl Arkison who teaches Improv Quilting Basics at Creative Live.

And, to add to that, my local guild is doing a round robin for the year where we get to take a square made by one of the members and add to that to make an 18” x 18” square.

I’d say my stash is in jeopardy!
