I pieced different sets of brown and beige rectangles to represent people who are only thought guilty because of their color. The skinny black strips were incorporated to replicate a jail cell. The letters are pieced into the rectangles. I used my domestic machine to create the random lines that intersect to make a shattered effect.
Based on the Bars quilt pattern by Tara Faughnan, it’s made with 100% premium quilting cottons. The batting is Hobbs 80/20 which is a combination of long staple cotton fibers and polyester.
The quilt is finished with a facing that gives it a clean look without the frame of a traditional quilt binding. There is a 4” sleeve so it’s ready to hang on your wall (wooden dowel with hanging wire included).
It hung at the Southeast Fiber Arts Alliance in Atlanta, Georgia, for a solo show in February 2022.
