Herman is named after a lion in an old black and white movie called “The Reformer and the Redhead.” He is brought to life using the cut-away method, much like reverse applique. I used four layers of fabric to give him a unique depth that painting can’t replicate. Earthy tones give him a naturalistic hue that adds warmth and familiarity befitting a lion’s regalness.

The vibrant turquoise eyes give him a sense of intelligence and spirit as well as the focal point of the piece.

The quilting traces the flow of his fur and emphasizes his proud and approachable features.

Herman is made from 100% quilting cotton and sandwiched with Hobbs 80/20 batting. He was then mounted on a canvas frame. He has the appropriate hardware and is ready to hang.
